Measuring Impact
"What did you do for me recently?" is a cynical way to look at a real problem: the people in an organization need to work together towards a common goal. A good technical manager must show progress with reporting, stats, and similar tools to show ongoing metrics. And, they need to show it to various audiences so a good manager will have sets of metrics - one set to show business value, one for technical excellence, one for internal efficiencies, etc. These then inform decision making, improve communications, and inspire disucssion.
